ABSTRACT

The concept of personalised transcription where the drugs were specific for each individual based on their genetic sequence. The day where a new dreadful pathogen like the one for “sars” was sequenced and the drug was released into the market within one week of its outburst. These concepts seem to be impossible. But they can be made possible with the advent of a wonderful device called “BIOCHIP”.

In this article, the design and working of a biochip was explained giving great emphasis for their applications in different fields like gene sequencing, drug design, mutation identification,pharmaco genomics etc. a brief explanation on different types of “biochips” like DNA chips, protein chips, antibody chips etc, has also been discussed briefly.
