Network Security Using Cryptography

ABSTRACT:

Network security is a complicated subject, historically only tackled by well-trained and experienced experts. However, as more and more people become ``wired'', an increasing number of people need to understand the basics of security in a networked world. We are going to present what are the common attacks against security over network, Solutions for those attacks, Introduction of cryptography, Algorithms of Cryptography and some special-purpose Secure Networking Devices. More over we are going to show

what are the best ciphers currently in use.

TERMINOLOGY:
• Cryptography: It is the study of secret (crypto-) writing (-graphy) that is secret writing. Simply it is an art of code making.
• Plaintext: The original intelligible message (i.e.: Original data)
• Cipher text: The transformed message
• Cipher: An algorithm for transforming an intelligible message into one that is unintelligible by transposition and/or substitution methods
• Key: Some critical information used by the cipher, known only to the sender & receiver
• Encipher: (Encode or Encrypt) The process of converting plaintext to cipher text using a cipher and a key.
• Decipher: (Decode or Decrypt) The process of converting cipher text back into plaintext using a cipher and a key
• Cryptanalysis: It is a Science and Art of code Breaking
• Cryptology: Both cryptography and cryptanalysis are called as cryptology.
• Cryptographers: People who do cryptography
• Cryptanalyst: Practitioners of cryptanalysis.

  1. I am pleased to know about network security using cryptography. This technique is considered to be the best option as it offers a high degree of security as compared to other option available.
